Albert Einstein:

Around 1886 Albert Einstein began his school career in Munich. He studied mathematics, in particular the calculus, beginning around 1891.

In 1894 Einstein's family moved to Milan but Einstein remained in Munich. In 1895 Einstein failed an examination that would have allowed him to study for a diploma as an electrical engineer at the Eidgenössische Technische Hochschule in Zurich. Following the failing of the entrance exam to the ETH, Einstein attended secondary school at Aarau planning to use this route to enter the ETH in Zurich. While at Aarau he wrote an essay (for which was only given a little above half marks!) in which he wrote of his plans for the future.

Indeed Einstein succeeded with his plan graduating in 1900 as a teacher of mathematics and physics. Einstein tried to obtain a post, writing to Hurwitz who held out some hope of a position but nothing came of it. In 1901 he was writing round universities in the hope of obtaining a job, but without success.

He did manage to avoid Swiss military service on the grounds that he had flat feet and varicose veins. By mid 1901 he had a temporary job as a teacher, teaching mathematics at the Technical High School in Winterthur.

Another temporary position teaching in a private school in Schaffhausen followed. Then Grossmann's father tried to help Einstein get a job by recommending him to the director of the patent office in Bern. Einstein was appointed as a technical expert third class. While in the Bern patent office he completed an astonishing range of theoretical physics publications, written in his spare time without the benefit of close contact with scientific literature or colleagues. Einstein earned a doctorate from the University of Zurich in 1905 for a thesis On a new determination of molecular dimensions. He dedicated the thesis to Grossmann. In the first of three papers, all written in 1905, Einstein examined the phenomenon discovered by Max Planck, according to which electromagnetic energy seemed to be emitted from radiating objects in discrete quantities. Einstein used Planck's quantum hypothesis to describe the electromagnetic radiation of light. Einstein’s second 1905 paper proposed what is today called the special theory of relativity. As a second fundamental hypothesis, Einstein assumed that the speed of light remained constant in all frames of reference. Later in 1905 Einstein showed how mass and energy were equivalent. The third of Einstein's papers of 1905 concerned statistical mechanics. He made important contributions to quantum theory. By 1909 Einstein was recognized as a leading scientific thinker and in that year he resigned from the patent office. He was appointed a full professor at the Karl-Ferdinand University in Prague in 1911. In fact 1911 was a very significant year for Einstein since he was able to make preliminary predictions about how a ray of light from a distant star, passing near the Sun, would appear to be bent slightly, in the direction of the Sun. This would be highly significant as it would lead to the first experimental evidence in favor of Einstein's theory. About 1912, Einstein began a new phase of his gravitational research. Einstein called his new work the general theory of relativity. He moved from Prague to Zurich in 1912 to take up a chair at the Eidgenössische Technische Hochschule in Zurich. Einstein returned to Germany in 1914 but did not reapply for German citizenship. What he accepted was an impressive offer. It was a research position in the Prussian Academy of Sciences together with a chair (but no teaching duties) at the University of Berlin. He was also offered the directorship of the Kaiser Wilhelm Institute of Physics in Berlin which was about to be established. During 1921 Einstein made his first visit to the United States. His main reason was to raise funds for the planned Hebrew University of Jerusalem. However he received the Barnard Medal during his visit and lectured several times on relativity. Einstein received the Nobel Prize in 1921 but not for relativity rather for his 1905 work on the photoelectric effect. Around this time he made many international visits. Among further honors which Einstein received were the Copley Medal of the Royal Society in 1925 and the Gold Medal of the Royal in 1926.Indeed Einstein's life had been hectic and he was to pay the price in 1928 with a physical collapse brought on through overwork. However he made a full recovery despite having to take things easy throughout 1928.By 1930 he was making international visits again, back to the United States. A third visit to the United States in 1932 was followed by the offer of a post at Princeton. The following month the Nazis came to power in Germany and Einstein was never to return there. Offers of academic posts which he had found it so hard to get in 1901, were plentiful. What was intended only as a visit became a permanent arrangement by 1935 when he applied and was granted permanent residency in the United States. In 1940 Einstein became a citizen of the United States, but chose to retain his Swiss citizenship. He made many contributions to peace during his life. In 1944 he made a contribution to the war effort by hand writing his 1905 paper on special relativity and putting it up for auction. It raised six million dollars, the manuscript today being in the Library of Congress. By 1949 Einstein was unwell. A spell in hospital helped him recover but he began to prepare for death by drawing up his will in 1950. He left his scientific papers to the Hebrew University in Jerusalem, a university which he had raised funds for on his first visit to the USA, served as a governor of the university from 1925 to 1928. One more major event was to take place in his life. After the death of the first president of Israel in 1952, the Israeli government decided to offer the post of second president to Einstein. He refused but found the offer an embarrassment since it was hard for him to refuse without causing offence. One week before his death Einstein signed his last letter. It was a letter to Bertrand Russell in which he agreed that his name should go on a manifesto urging all nations to give up nuclear weapons. It is fitting that one of his last acts was to argue, as he had done all his life, for international peace.

Einstein was cremated at Trenton, New Jersey at 4 pm on 18 April 1955 (the day of his death). His ashes were scattered at an undisclosed place.

German philosopher and mathematician. Leibniz was born in Leipzig, where he attended university from the age of 15, and submitted a thesis for the degree of doctor of law at the age of 20. In 1667 he entered the service of the Elector of Mainz, where he remained until 1672, engaged largely in political writing. He traveled to Paris in 1672, partly to try to persuade Louis XIV to expel the Turks from Egypt; here he also met Malebranche, Arnauld and Huygens. He visited England in 1673, and again in 1676, at which time he had completed his discovery of the differential calculus. In this year he traveled to Amsterdam and met Spinoza, and became librarian to the Duke of Brunswick at Hanover, a post he held until his death. He worked on among other things hydraulic presses, windmills, lamps, submarines, clocks, carriages and water pumps. Between 1680 and 1697 he was working on his own system of philosophy. Leibniz was the greatest polymath of modern philosophers, making contributions to mathematics, jurisprudence, and history, as well as philosophy. He corresponded with extensively with all the major learned men of the time, and was the founder of the academy of Berlin. In 1711 he met the Russian czar Peter the Great. He died November 14, 1716 in Hanover.

One day a father and his rich family took his young son on a trip to the country with the firm purpose to show him how poor people can be.They spent a day and a night in the farm of a very poor family. When they got back from the trip, the father asked the son,"How waas the trip?"

"Very good Dad!"

"Did you see how poor people can be?"the father asked.

"Yeah!""And what did you learn?"

The son answerwed,"I saw that we have a dog at home, and they have four. We have a pool that reaches to the middle of the garden, they have a creek that has no end.We have imported lamps in tne garden, thay have the stars. Our patio reaches to the front yard, they have a whole horizon.

When the little boy was finishing, his father was speechless.

His son added,"Thanks, Dad, for showing me how poor we are!" Isn't it true that it all depends on the way we look at things? If you have love, friends, family. health, good humour, and a positive attitude towards life, you've got everything!

You can't buy any of these things. You can have all the material possessions you can imagine, provisions for the future, etc, but if you are poor of spirit, you have nothing!

In 1945, there was a young boy of 14 in a concentration camp. He was tall, thin but had a bright smile. Every day, a young girl came by on the other side of the fence. She noticed the boy and asked him if he spoke Polish, and he said yes. She said he looked hungry, and he replied that he was. She then reached in her pocket and gave him her a[pple. He thanked her and she went on her way. The next day, she came by again, bringing with her another apple which she gave him. Each day, she walked by the fence, hoping to see him, and when she did, she happily handed him an apple in exchange for conversation.

One day, he told her to not to come by anymore. He told her that he was being shipped to another concentration camp. As he walked away with tears streaming down his face, he wondered if he'd ever see her again. She was the only kind soul he'd seen across the fence. He made it out of the concentration camp, and immigarted to America. In 1957, his freinds had fixed him up on a blind date. He had no idea who thhe woman was. He picked her up, and during dinner began tallking of Poland and the concentration camp. She said she was in Poland at that time. She said she used to talk to a boy and gave him apples daily. He asked if this boy was tall, skinny and if he had told her taht she shouldn't come back becauese he was leaving. She said yes.

He proposed to her that night and told her he'd never again let her go. They are stll happily married today.

Miracles do happen, and there is a grater force at work in our lives.

Every calamity, every disaster, all misfortunes can become challenges; they force us to venture on new paths, stretch our minds for new solutions, to take risks, to overcome sloth and win.

Years ago, in America, cotton was the big money in the south. Then the pest, the ball weevil came along. It began eating up all the crops.

Everyone despaired: ruin was imminent. However, that little pest turned out to be a blessing in disguise. It forced farmers to plant peanuts instead of cotton. Eventually, peanuts became a more profitable crop than cotton ever was. In appreciation, farmers erected a statue pf the hated weevil in Alabama.

‘Never forget that happiness is like a butterfly. The more you chase it directly, the more it will just elude you. But if you sit down quietly and divert your attention, then it comes and sits softly on your shoulder.

While thumbing through the family pictures, I remembered a story a friend, Dan told me. His daughter’s teacher requested a parent teacher conference with him. His wife usually took care of those conferences, but the teacher wanted to see him, not his wife.

At her insistence, he made an appointment to drop by the school that afternoon,’ I wanted you to see this drawing your daughter made of your family,’ she said.

Dan looked at the drawing and asked,’ Where am I?’

That’s why I called you down here today, I asked your daughter the same question and she said you are never home so she left you out of the picture.’

FINDING COPPER PENNIES

There was a small boy who when walking down the street one day found a bright copper penny. He was so excited that he found money and it didn’t cost him anything. this experience led him to spend the rest of his days walking with his head down; eyes wide open, looking for treasure.

During his lifetime he found 296 pennies, 48 nickels, 19 dimes, 16 quarters, 2 half dollars and one crinkled dollar bill. A total of 13.96 dollars.

He got money for nothing. Except that he missed the breathless beauty of 31,369 sunsets, the colorful splendor of 157 rainbows, the fiery beauty of hundreds of maples nipped by autumn’s drifting across blue skies, shifting into various wondrous formations.

Birds flying, sun shining, and the smiles of a thousand passing people are not a part of his memory.

Who do you know that is living like this? Head is bent down, burdened with trivial things, afraid of pain and criticism and fear of things that never happen hoping to find that copper penny….for nothing.

When he came back to the table, mother smiled and said,’ The circus keeps coming back you know.’

‘I know’ said father,’ but childhood doesn’t.

A wise woman who was traveling in the mountains found a precious stone in a stream. The next day she met another traveler, who was hungry, and the wise woman opened her bag to share her food. The hungry traveler saw the precious stone in the woman’s bag and admired ir, and asked her to give it to him. The wise woman did so without hesitation.

The traveler left, rejoicing in his good fortune. He knew the jewel was worth enough to give him security for the rest of his life.

But a few days later he came back, searching for the wise woman. When he found her, he returned her the stone and said,’ I have been thinking. I know how valuable this stone is, but I give it back to you in the hope that you can give me something more precious. If you can, give me what you have within you that enabled you to give me that stone.

THE “BIG ROCKS” OF LIFE

One day, an expert in time management was speaking to a group of business students and, to drive home a point, used an illustration those students will never forget. As he stood in front of the group of high powered over achievers he said,” Okay, time for a quiz,” and he pulled out a one-gallon, wide mouth Mason jar and set it on the table in front of him.

He also produced about a dozen fist-sized rocks and carefully placed them, one at a time, into the jar. When the jar was filled to the top and no more rocks would fit inside, he asked,” Is this jar full?”

Everyone in the class yelled, “Yes.”

The time management expert replied,” Really?”

He reached under the table and pulled out a bucket of gravel. He dumped some gravel in and shook the jar causing pieces of gravel to work themselves down into the spaces between the big rocks.

He then asked the group once more,” Is the jar full?”

By this time the class was on to him. “Probably not,” one of them answered. “Good!” He replied.

He reached under the table and bought out a bucket of sand. He started dumping the sand in the jar and it went into all of the spaces left between the rocks and the gravel.

Once more he asked the question,” Is this jar full?”

“No!” the class shouted.

Once again he said, “Good.”

Then he grabbed a pitcher of water and began to pour it in until the jar was filled to the brim.

He looked at the class and asked,”What is the point of this illustration?”

One eager beaver raised his hand and said,” The point is , no matter how full your schedule is, of you really try hard you can always fit some more things in it!”

“No,” the speaker replied,” that’s not the point, the truth is, this illustration teaches us that if you don’t put the big rocks in first, you will never get them in at all. What are the ‘big rocks’ in your life, time with your beloved ones, your faith, your education, your dreams, a worthy causer, teaching or mentoring others? Remember to put these big rocks in first  or  you will never get them in at all. So, tonight, or in the morning you are reflecting on this short story, ask yourself this question: What are the ‘big rocks’ in my life? Then put those in your jar first.

• It is not necessary to read / reply all the 200 -300 SMSs daliy ...
  
• It is not necessary to watch/ switch all the 100 TV channels daliy ...
• It is not necessary to read / surf all the search reasults on a topic of interest on internet.
• The no. of files in your PC are in Millions, do not bother about them.
• it is not necessary to store every no. in your phone and recognise the person calling..

BUT MOST IMPORTANT ...It is upto you to decide which ones of above not to miss...

You can caliberate your efficiency by chaffing away the junk & focussing on what 

is necessary... 

Generally it is with in human limits..

Sensitivity & Sensibility

It is hard to belive that most people today have

have chosen to be proud of being Insensitive and insensible and actually call it being practical & worldly wise. Such people fear the strong & bully the weaker ones & also act indifferent to others.Such people deride sensitive and sensible people by calling them emotional or over serious.

Senstivity and sensibility are two endowments which Humans have unlike other creatures. These two qualities are a complex blend of knowledge, logic & emotions and have the power

to generate huge momentums. However, being sensitive & sensible require grooming, self awareness,responsiblity & courage.

Just try saying " I do Not Care" and then " I care ." and feel the difference. Former is easiest and latter is extremely difficult. Shallow and incapable people resort to " I dont Care' and profound and Capable people resolve to " I Care". So are the results they get EVENTUALLY..

Please see in your daily life the instances where you feel you behaved shallow or profound..

You will be thunderstruck..
